“Oceannica” Series

Each of the paintings in this collection began with deeply layered textures on canvas built over a background of earth tones, copper and patina layered washes… gradually building up the appearance of aged paint and colors… a technique derived from her trained styles she used in her past commissions in Saint Barthelemy villa walls. Miss Palica’s new, whimsical ocean series depicts colorful creatures from the deep blue capturing moments which appear they are taken from a story leaving the viewer intrigued to learn more. Ann hopes her art inspires others and serves as a source of enjoyment. This Exhibition spotlights crashing waves, unique aquatic animals, maritime voyages and seafaring vessels, each finished off with 24K gold leaf embellishments that come to life in sunlight and look moonlit as the sun sets. Each of the paintings in this series is one of a kind and the only one in existence… there are no prints or reproductions made from this series which makes them even more unique. The series is broken up into two, the first 4 paintings in this collection of 9 are currently on exhibit at Setting the Space gallery (along with Ann’s South Shore landscape series of 6) as their featured artist of their latest boutique gallery. The 5 remaining “sister” paintings are titled the “Daffodil series”, which pay tribute to Nantucket Island’s annual daffodil season and festival will complete the series of eight and are slated to go to the island.

South "ShoreScapes" Series

Native of Marshfield, Massachusetts, Ann Palica chose to unveil this new series of six paintings to depict the beauty of her hometown and the south shoreline of Massachusetts by using bold colors with dramatic textured and layered landscapes of various marsh and coastline settings to embody the different emotions the changing seasons and times of day. The contrasting “OceAnnica” series of 4 paintings are her signature contrasting yet complimentary pieces to juxtapose in a completely different style/almost as though done by two different artists. Each of the paintings in both simultaneous shows began with deeply layered textures and the building up of paint and colors… a technique similar to her trained styles she used in her commission work in the French West Indies. The names of each piece in the shorescape series pay tribute to her Ukrainian heritage.

Paper Crane Series

The Paper Crane Series is a limited collection of 6 paintings total, on canvas with layered textures and color and 24K gold leaf. Each “study” painting depicts the delicate edges and folds from various perspectives of the ancient art of the origami crane. The origami crane came from the belief that if one folded 1,000 origami cranes, one’s wish would come true. It has also become a symbol of hope and healing during challenging times. As a result, it has become popular to fold 1.000 cranes (in Japanese, called “senbazuru”). The origami crane symbolizes honor, good fortune, loyalty, and longevity. These formidable characteristics give the crane such special meaning and why the Japanese believed that anyone with the patience and commitment to fold 1,000 would be given good fortune and granted a wish.

Daffodil Series

The Daffodil Series are the five “sister” paintings to the Oceannica Series… each mindfully incorporates daffodils within the composition. This series was created to pay tribute to Nantucket Island’s annual daffodil season and festival and are slated to go to the island. These remaining four paintings, yet to be unveiled in a gallery setting, include a vintage ship with a figurehead crashing through the waves of a storm holding a bouquet of daffodils and a vintage 1960’s style flower child, whimsical “cisco” mermaid also featuring daffodils intertwined throughout, both pieces inspired by her love and appreciation of all things Nantucket and particularly the annual Nantucket Daffodil Festival which her and her fiancé attend annually with their vintage cars.
